mission: MUSE - "where i live"
by guest muse alex
I live at Sproat Lake on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. We're surrounded by rivers, lakes, mountains, and west coast rain forests.
When I look through my window in the morning, I see a beautiful landscape of water, trees, clouds, and hills which changes constantly throughout the day, and from one day to the next.
We can go boating , swimming, fishing, or hiking in the area, and the water from the lake is so clean we pump it into the house for our water supply.
We live only 25 minutes from the nearest city, so we have the best of both worlds - wilderness and city comforts.
We generally have a warm sunny summer, around 75F, and a crisp colorful fall. However, once the rain starts in November, we have grey skies more often than blue. Since we don't get much snow - usually not more than two weeks of it - we don't mind the rainy season that much. Our biggest fears come with the windstorms, which can cause many of our giant trees to fall, often over power lines.
We lose electricity several times throughout the winter, but the repair crews are excellent - usually getting everything back into shape within a day.
Wildlife is abundant. Just last week a mother bear and her two cubs frolicked in our yard, looking for something edible. There have been two other bears making the circuit as well. They come by every few days, taking a wide loop in the area. On the dock I've seen river otters playing, and wild eagles eviscerating their catch . Deer are plentiful, and there has even been a cougar sighting nearby.
We love travelling, and visit other places whenever we have the opportunity, but it's always heaven to come back home.
Thank you for visiting where I live.
