where i live - england, uk

mission: MUSE - "where i live"
by guest muse rebecca

I recently was invited to take part in a challenge by a group of lovely females who go by the name Mortal Muses. They set a challenge, to build their community and make the world a bit smaller. Write about where you live, include pictures. Well obviously I do that a lot but I would like to write a bit specifically about Devon and Cornwall.

I've written this post about 10 times so far and never has it really gotten to the essence that I'm trying to reach. Devon and Cornwall are two beautiful places and I call both of them home, it is the place where I feel most at home, most at peace. It's a hard thing to describe but the atmosphere, the way the place feels, it's spirit is beautiful.

Cornwall has a rich history, beautiful countryside, the biggest coastline in Britain (3 coasts for one county). Devon has 2 coastlines and is beautiful too. Devon is slightly more integrated and varied, more cities and big towns but it still has it's sleepy villages and just like Cornwall the pace is set to medium-slow.

I think my favourite place in Cornwall is the beach, my son is in full agreement with me as well. We often head to Seaton Beach in Cornwall, in winter there are great rock pools, a lovely walk, and a great family friendly pub in the next village (about 10 mins walk)! In the summer we've been known to stay all day, watch the tourists leave and bbq our dinner on the beach, watching the sun set over the hill and letting go of lanterns.

People say that Home is where you hang your hat, but for me home is where my memories are, home is where I feel safe and happy.

  3. One day....As many times as I go to England I've never been to Cornwall, & that is where my great-grandmother is from. My heritage is there & I still have family there. I can't wait to go there...one day!

  5. Lovely post and beautiful photos. My husband was born in Devon and most of his happiest early memories are from there. He'll be so pleased to see your post.
