where i live - strathmore, alberta, canada

mission: MUSE - "where i live"
by guest muse aia

I grew up in the big city, Alberta, Canada.  A glorious, prideful place where you could always find something to do.  I was a city girl.

But then, around the age of twelve, I was introduced to another world.  A world where I gathered eggs, chased turkeys & flew across the hay bales in the early mornings.  Long summer nights were spent by the pond, collecting tadpoles & water in our boots.  I remember when I talked my mom into letting me bring several tadpoles home in an aquarium, where I successfully raised one into an adult frog.

We taught ourselves to coax a campfire, ride horses & build tree forts.  We were unplugged & lived the days unplanned.

Those summers have always stayed with me.  I think a lot of my decisions in parenting came from that lifestyle.  Take the time, explore & turn the TV off.   And now my own kids get to spend a portion of their summers at the same farm, a little cabin on the vast prairie, away from all but what’s important.

I now live in a southern rural Alberta town where I can experience the best of both worlds.  Shopping is pretty good.  And I can see the country pretty much right from my doorway.  I venture there often and find myself immersed in a world from so many years ago.

Thank you for travelling down memory lane with me.  It was my pleasure sharing it with you.
